Urban Talks – Securitising Causeway Bay

In the post-pandemic era, "traveling" has once again become an inevitable part of taking a vacation. A report predicts that the global tourism revenue will reach $5 trillion this year, recovering to about 80% of pre-pandemic levels, with a total number of tourists reaching as high as 10.78 billion. Many travel enthusiasts now wish to be responsible tourists and start caring about whether their tourist identity will have negative impacts on the local residents of their destinations. But how can it be effectively practiced in reality?

The latest episode of Scrutinising Causeway Bay is honoured to have experienced traveller Dr Wong Kim Fan as our guest. From studying the ancient Aegean cultures of hospitality to analysing the general trends of modern mass tourism, Dr Wong will explore the host-guest relationship between travellers and the place they visited. Join us to reconsider the way of hospitality and of tourism. Should we be hospitable? Is it necessary to be a good host? Under the conditions of imbalance host-guest relationships, how can we be a more responsible traveller?

Episode Five: Hospitality and Tourism: Insights from Aegean Civilisation
Date: 9th September (Saturday)
Time: 14:30 – 17:00
Location: Everything’s, 2/F, 9B Sharp Street East, Causeway Bay
Language: Cantonese
Fee: HKD$150
Guest: Dr Wong Kim Fan, experienced traveller
